Jr. StreetKings Fall Championship Comes Down to the Wire

HERNANDO, Miss. — Following seven weeks of competitive play, the 2014 Fall championship came down to the final seconds.

The Super Drugs Stars faced the Gladiators in the semifinal playoff game for a chance to advance to the championship. The Stars had plenty of opportunities in the first half but the Gladiators’ goalies were brick walls in front of the goal. Chase Jackson lead the Gladiators with two goals and Tristian Ogle added two assists as they went into the half with a 7-0 advantage.

The Stars began the second half on fire, as they found the back of the net six times. Colton Cleary and Luke Pair lead the comeback by combining for five goals. However, the Gladiators used their large first half lead to cruise to the 13-6 win.

The Sharks awaited the Gladiators in the championship game. The first half saw the Gladiators out to a slim, 5-4 lead, behind two goals by Zack White. The Sharks stormed back in the second half behind Zaylie Bynum, who extended her scoring streak to seven games with two goals, and Conner Iverson, who had a career high four goals.

Heading into the final shift the Sharks were holding onto a three goal lead, but the Gladiators came out firing, scoring two goals in the final three minutes to cut the deficit to one. Led by third line M.V.P. Austin Wiggins, the Gladiators peppered the goal with shot after shot, until Wiggins was fouled with three seconds remaining. On the penalty shot, the Sharks’ goalie was unfazed by the fancy stick work of the league’s leading scorer and the shot was turned away. The Sharks took the game and the first place trophy in the 2014 Fall season.

Joining Austin Wiggins as M.V.P.’s were Carson Middleton of the Sharks and Hunter Cleary of the Gladiators.
