RiverKings Fall in OT, 4-3

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - After a decisive win on Friday night, the RiverKings drop game two of the SPHL Challenge Round versus the Havoc, 4-3. Daniel Tedesco netted his second goal in as many nights for Mississippi, but the Havoc clawed back into the game scoring three unanswered including the deciding goal in overtime.

Unlike the game at Planters Bank Ice at Landers Center on Friday night where neither team could get on board in the first period, both teams notched a tally in the opening frame on Saturday night. With the RiverKIngs being the road team jumping out to a lead was pertinent for Mississippi and they did just that a little over eight minutes into the first period. Brantley Sherwood notched his first goal of the SPHL Challenge Round when his spin-around wrist-shot from the high slot beat Havoc goalie Mike DeLaVergne for the game's first goal. Huntsville tied the game up nine minutes later with a goal from Stephen Hrehoriak that slid past Tyler Green.

The RiverKings regrouped during the intermission an took over the game in the second period. Midway through the frame, the RiverKigns got a powerplay opportunity and wasted no time getting their second tally of the night. It only took eight seconds with the man advantage for Donald Olivieri's wrister to find twice, his first goal of the post-season to go with his two assists from Friday night. Later in the period, Dan Tedesco buried his second goal in as many nights when he took Ryan Salkeld's rebound off the pad of DeLaVergne and slipped the puck past the sprawling netminder.

As good as the RiverKings were in the second period, Huntsville matched the intensity in the third period. WIth the RiverKings firmly in the lead 2-1 well past the halfway mark of the period, the Havoc got the crowd back in the game with a goal from Kyle Sharkey. It only took 31 seconds for the Havoc to add another goal to the board and knot the game up at 3 with 8:06 left to go in the third.

After starting the extra period on the penalty kill, the RiverKings would just barely survive but not for long. Only one second after Devin Mantha stepped out of the box, Christian Powers redirected a shot from Stuart Stefan that got by Green and sealed the victory for Huntsville.

With the series tied at one game apiece, the RiverKings and Havoc will play a decisive game three on Sunday, April 15 at 5 PM.
