Former NFL star to appear at RiverKings game

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings announced today that former Memphis Tiger and NFL wide receiver Isaac Bruce will appear at the RiverKings game Saturday December 13 when they face the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Bruce will be available for photographs with fans during the game. There will also be a VIP meet and greet with Bruce before the game. Ticket information for that will be available at a later date.

Bruce is one of the all-time great players at the University of Memphis, where he played two seasons from 1992-93. There he had 117 receptions for 1616 yards and 15 touchdowns. He had his number retired by the Tigers in 2003.

Following his collegiate career Bruce played 16 seasons in the NFL, 14 with the St. Louis Rams and two with the San Francisco 49ers. When he retired after the 2009 season Bruce was second in NFL history with 15,208 receiving yards. He caught the game-winning 73-yard touchdown in the Rams' Super Bowl XXXIV win.

Off the field, Bruce initiated the Isaac Bruce Foundation in 2006 to focus on health, wellness, nutrition, fitness and education. Through the foundation he reaches out to youth and teaches them at an early age the importance of a healthy lifestyle with a focus on education. To date, the Isaac Bruce Foundation has donated more than a quarter of a million dollars in grants and scholarships, fed more than 3,000 families in partnership with Feed the Children and other hunger organizations, had more than 3,800 kids participate in our free football clinics, donated more than 1,200 autographed items to other charities for raffles and auctions to help them raise money, donated more than 14,000 books to underserved preschool students, and rewarded more than 1,000 student athletes with tickets to a NFL game for their work in the community and the classroom.

Bruce will be on hand as part of Teddy Bear Toss night when fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear and throw it onto the ice after the RiverKings score their first goal. The bears will benefit Toys for Tots.

The RiverKings will return home and host the Huntsville Havoc at the Landers Center Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3:05 p.m. Fans can find a coupon for four free red-level tickets in this week's DeSoto Appeal. Otherwise tickets can be purchased through the Landers Center Box Office or at riverkings.com/ticketmaster. Groups of 15 or more receive discounted tickets and should call the RiverKings front office at 662-342-1755.
