Di Salvo Stops 26 as RiverKings Extinguish FireAntz

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- It was a great bounce-back win for the Mississippi RiverKings (4-3-0) in Peter Di Salvo's first start of the season with a 3-1 win over the Fayetteville FireAntz (3-4-0)  at the Landers Center.

In the first, Brant Sherwood opened the scoring after he deposited Mike Grace's pass on a two-on-one past the outstretched pad of Sean Bonar to put the RiverKings ahead 1-0. The RiverKings would kill off three penalties in the period before taking one near the end that carried over to the second.

The penalty that carried over ended up leading to the first goal for the FireAntz to start the second period. Colin McIntosh snuck behind the changing penalty killers for the RiverKings on a stretch pass from Chase Nieuwendyk and sent a shot over the blocker side of Peter Di Salvo to tie the game at one. Minutes later, the RiverKings answered back on Mike Moran's third goal of the year from Brant Sherwood on a play started from Cullen Bradshaw.

Early in the third, the RiverKings extended their lead. Dillan Fox tallied his first goal of the year after tipping a Robert Lindores pass between the legs of Bonar to give the RiverKings the 3-1 victory.

Peter Di Salvo (1-0-0) picked up his first win of the season after stopping 26 of 27 shots against. Sean Bonar (3-4-0) took the loss after stopping 19 of 22.

The RiverKings finished the game scoreless on five power play opportunities. Fayetteville scored once on six chances with the man-advantage.

The RiverKings return home tomorrow night in a rematch against Fayetteville at 7:30 p.m. for the team's annual Teddy Bear Toss for Toys for Tots. The team will also welcome NHL legend Willie O'Ree who will drop the puck before the game.
