Di Salvo records second straight shutout, 4-0 over Ice Flyers

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Peter Di Salvo made 39 saves and the Mississippi RiverKings (25-15-2) collected their second straight shutout victory, 4-0, over the Pensacola Ice Flyers (23-14-6) Tuesday night at the Landers Center. The RiverKings have now won nine straight games.

The RiverKings took the lead less than five minutes into the first period, when Leo Thomas deflected a shot near the right post. Matt Whitehead sent a pass to Andrew Randazzo, who took a shot from the right circle, and Thomas deflected it out of mid air behind Max Strang to the short side post. Thomas doubled the lead later in the first period as he buried a rebound in the crease. Whitehead started the play again down the left wing. He ended up behind the net and centered a pass to Linden Bahm, who fired a quick shot on goal, which Strang stopped, but Thomas cashed in at the left post at 12:07 for his 15th goal of the season. Pensacola had five power-play chances in the first period, including a full two-minute 5-on-3, but they couldn't beat Di Salvo.

While the Ice Flyers failed to score on their power-play chances in the first period the RiverKings took advantage of theirs in the second. Just 1:52 into the second Sean Jones fired in a rebound from the right circle for a 3-0 lead. Mike Grace carried the puck down the left wing, saucered a pass to Dan Delisle in the slot and he sent a one-timer on goal, which created the rebound for Jones to open a three-goal lead with a power-play goal. The RiverKings scored their second power-play goal with less than a minute to go in the second as Bahm stashed home a pass from Whitehead for a 4-0 lead.

The Ice Flyers had 15 shots in the third period, but Di Salvo stopped them all to earn his second straight shutout and his ninth straight win overall.

Notes: Peter Di Salvo has back-to-back shutouts, the first two of his career, and has a career-high shutout streak of 177:42 going back to Feb. 6 vs. Pensacola. The last goal he allowed came 2:18 into that game against the Ice Flyers... Matt Whitehead played in his 300th professional game and registered his third three-point game of the season... Linden Bahm extended his scoring streak to a career-high five games (4g, 3a).
