FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Mississippi RiverKings (18-21-7) picked up a point, but fell in overtime against the Fayetteville FireAntz (27-14-3) 4-3.

The RiverKings scored early for the third straight game. Matt Whitehead found the back of the net just 33 seconds into the action, hammering in a Matt Harrington rebound past Kyle Rank to put the ‘Kings up 1-0. Three minutes later, Kevin Willer’s one-timer beat Rank five-hole to give the visitors the 2-0 edge.

But Fayetteville battled back. Josh McQuade cut the lead to one, when his shot slipped between the pads of Matt Krahn. Late in the first, the ‘Antz struck again. Derek Elliott found the back of the net with less than three minutes remaining to send the game into the first intermission tied at two.

Midway through the second, the ‘Kings retook the lead. Chris Campanale scored his fourth goal in two games when he beat Rank glove side on a two-on-one to put the ‘Kings up 3-2. Fayetteville then battled back early in the third to tie the game. Bobby Reed took a Brandon Richardson pass and beat Krahn to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, the teams traded chances, but a miscue in the RiverKings zone put the puck on the stick of Derek Elliott who set up Ben Contini who gave Fayetteville the 4-3 victory in overtime.

Matt Krahn (10-12-3) took the loss stopping 29 of 33 shots against. Kyle Rank (6-6-2) picked up the victory after turning aside 43 of 46 shots against.

The RiverKings return to the ice tomorrow night in a rematch against Fayetteville from the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. with all the action airing live on Sports 56, 87.7FM and the America One Sports Network.
