SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Chris Campanale's first period hat-trick gave the Mississippi RiverKings (18-21-6) the start they needed as they took revenge on the first-place Louisiana IceGators (27-11-4) in the form of a 5-1 thumping at the Lander's Center Saturday night.

The ‘Kings got on the board early when Chris Campanale found the back of the net over a scrambling Riley Gill to put the hometown team up 1-0, just two minutes in. Campanale added to the one-goal lead seven minutes later with a pass from Matt Whitehead to beat Gill right side. Campanale completed his hat trick on the power play, at the 13:23 mark of the first period. Campanale poked in Whitehead's shot right by Gill to give the ‘Kings a three-goal lead heading into the first intermission.

The ‘Kings did not let up in the second. Matt Harington’s bad-angle shot on net 8:12 into the second period caught Gill off guard to give the ‘Kings a four-goal lead. Two minutes later, shorthanded, Mike MacDonald notched his 201st career point when he picked up Whitehead’s rebound to give the ‘Kings a 5-0 lead over the first-place IceGators.

But the IceGators got on the board in the third period. On the power play midway through the final period, Rob Lawrence rebounded a shot from Troy O'fukany to cut the 'Kings lead by four. The 'Kings held off the IceGators for the remainder of the game, handing the visiting team their first loss in seven games.

Matthew Krahn (10-12-2) stopped of 39 of 40 shots against in the win. Riley Gill (20-8-3) turned aside 30 of 35 to pick up his first loss in seven games.

That was a Great Game for Chris Campanale, Mike MacDonald, and my son, Kenneth Pratt; a 11 yr old ref, that got to go on the ice before the game with the Refs within "Hockey Weekend Across America". Thank you
