Beer, Quaile pace RiverKings past Havoc

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Dylan Quaile had a three-point game and Matt Beer had a goal and assist, his first points as a pro, as the Mississippi RiverKings (32-20-2) handled the Huntsville Havoc (9-37-7), 4-2, at the Landers Center Sunday evening.

The RiverKings had to overcome a slow start to get the win, as Luke Greiner staked the Havoc to a 1-0 lead 10:07 into the first period, taking advantage of consecutive RiverKings turnover to do so. He fired a wrist shot from the right circle that got through traffic and past Adam Courchaine for a 1-0 Havoc lead. Eight minutes later the RiverKings pulled even when they capitalized on a Huntsville turnover behind the net. Quailed ended up with the puck and sent a pass through the crease to Beer, who tapped it in at the right post for a 1-1 tie at 18:07.

The Havoc quickly took the lead back to start the second period as Ray Ortiz netted a rebound after Dave Williams had a mini breakaway just 27 seconds into the period. That lead lasted less than two minutes, however, as Paul Ciarelli scored from close range to make it 2-2 at 2:48. Quaile lifted the stick of a Havoc defenseman behind the net to gather the puck and then sent a pass to the right wing post to Ciarelli, where he had a wraparound that got past Kevin Genoe. Nearly 10 minutes later Mike Grace gave the RiverKings a 3-2 lead when he sent a left point shot through traffic for his first goal of the season. Ryan Marcuz was camped in front and nearly got a deflection on it, but he did get an assist, as did Devin Mantha.

The RiverKings iced the game away when Matt Whitehead buried a rebound at 11:33 to give Mississippi a 4-2 lead. Linden Bahm dropped a pass to Quaile, who fired a shot from the left circle. That created a rebound and as Genoe tried to cover it, but Bahm poked it loose to Whitehead for his 21st goal of the season.

Notes: Matt Beer scored his first professional goal, in his seventh pro game, and he picked up his first multi-point game of his career... Dylan Quaile had three assists for the second time this season. His last was Nov. 2, also against Huntsville... Paul Ciarelli has goals in back-to-back games for the second time this season. It also happened Jan. 24-27... The RiverKings finished the season with a 7-1-0 record against the Havoc.
