WEEKEND RECAP: The RiverKings headed to Knoxville for their second and third meetings of the season against the Ice Bears and stole two wins on the road. Friday night’s match-up saw the RiverKings explode for seven goals, their first coming five minutes into the game when Matt Harrington scored his fourth of the season. The RiverKings struck for three more goals in the opening frame by Charles Lachance, Todd Hosmer and Matt Whitehead as the teams headed to the locker room. The RiverKings added three more goals in the second, before giving up the Ice Bears only goal of the game with three minutes left in the second to take a 7-1 victory. In Saturday’s contest, the Ice Bears jumped out to an early lead with a shorthanded goal in the first. Unable to record a goal on 12 shots in the first, the RiverKings recorded three goals in the second, including a shorthanded goal by Todd Hosmer. In the third, the Ice Bears cut the lead in half with a goal by Eric Satim, before the RiverKings added two of their own to win 5-2.

TOP LINE FIRING: After falling into a slump, the RiverKings top line began to show signs of a resurgence with eight of the team’s last 20 goals. Continuing to contribute, Hosmer has three goals and four assists in the last five games and surpassed his goal count from last season with his 16th and 17th goals on Saturday.

IN-STATE RIVALRY CONTINUES: The RiverKings begin their second three-in-three of December in Biloxi when they take on the Surge on Thursday night. Last time out, the Surge split a two-game series against the Columbus Cottonmouths this past weekend. The Surge have scored 18 goals in their last five games, with eight on the power play, due in large part to players like Chapen LeBlond. The 6-foot-1 right winger, is riding a three-game point streak into this weekend, including a one-goal and two-assist effort against Columbus on Saturday.

SPECIAL TEAMS WORK: The Surge boast the best power play in the league, registering 18 goals on 79 man-advantage opportunities. In their last five games, the Surge have recorded eight power play goals and two on the penalty kill. Although the team is producing, the team has given up at least one power play goal in four of their last five games.

FLYING INTO TOWN: The RiverKings will host the Ice Flyers in their last home game of the 2013 calendar year on Friday. Last time out, the Ice Flyers were blanked by the FireAntz on home ice 3-0, after registering 40 shots on goal. Since losing the league’s leading goal scorer Joe Caveney, the Ice Flyers have gone 4-3-0 and have been shutout twice.

ROAD VICTORIES: The Ice Flyers hold a better record on the road this season, going 7-3-1 away from Pensacola Civic Center. In those 11 games the Ice Flyers have scored 40 goals while giving up just 29.

CHOMPING AT THE BIT: The RiverKings finish up the three-in-three in Louisiana as they try to steal their first win of the season against the IceGators. The ‘Gators are riding their first three-game losing streak of the season and are losers of four of their last five. During the losing streak, the IceGators have given up 18 goals including two power play goals and one shorthanded.

BACK BETWEEN THE PIPES: The IceGators get their starting goaltender back this week after spending time in the ECHL. Over the weekend, Matt Zenzola was returned on loan from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades after spending much of the month with the team. Zenzola currently sits six in the league in goaltending with a 2.88 goals against average with a 9-3-1 record.

AWAY GAME WATCH: Be sure to catch all the RiverKings action when they're away from the Landers Center at Old Style BBQ in Olive Branch, the Official Away Game Watch Party Headquarters of the RiverKings. All the action starts Thursday and again on Saturday at 7:05.

TEEN NIGHT: The RiverKings will host the fourth Friday Night Teen Night of the season this weekend when they take on the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
