While it was not the Mississippi RiverKings competing on ice, it was still exciting hockey played by local children in the Jr. StreetKings roller hockey program this past week on the Hernando Civic Center covered rink facility.
The past week had three fast-paced games to continue the programs Spring League, which consists of a 12-game season over six weeks between three teams, from May 10th till June 19th.
The program is coordinated by RiverKings captain and seven-time CHL All-Star Derek Landmesser.
In the first game of the week, on Monday the 1st, the RinkRats won 13-7 versus the Sharks.
CJ Bynum, Aaron McIngvale and Cody DePriest all had "hat tricks" for the RinkRats with three goals each. Jacob Ackerman scored a "hat trick" for the Sharks, while Caleb Baker scored two goals.
Todd Whitman had one goal for the Sharks, while JoJo DePriest, Brandon Bain, Connor Crockett and Abby Miller all had a goal each for the RinkRats.
Bynum, who has been in the program for seven years, has been one of the league’s leading scorers for many years.
"My mom took me to a RiverKings game, I loved it and I have been playing here ever since," said Bynum.
In the second game on Tuesday the 2nd, the Sharks took a 8-2 victory over the Blizzards.
In the last game of the week, on Thursday the 3rd, the RinkRats won 5-0 over the Blizzards.
Once the spring league is completed, there will be more fun at the Hernando Civic Center with a summer camp.
Registration is currently underway for what will be two summer camps this year.
The first camp will be a FREE learn-to-inline skate camp. The dates and times for this camp are Tuesday, July 6th until Friday, July 9th from 10 AM until 12 noon.
The second one will be the regular summer roller hockey camp. The dates and times for this camp are Monday, July 12th until Friday, July 16th from 10 AM until 3 PM.
