RiverKings Rout Wichita

The Mississippi RiverKings set season marks for goals in a game and goals in a period in thrashing the Wichita Thunder 7-1 Friday night, February 26th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

In beating the Thunder, for the fifth time this season (5-1-1), Mississippi scored six times in the second period alone.

Darrell Stoddard scored a pair of goals in the victory and added two assists.  Ryan Held also had a four-point night with a goal and three assists.

After a scoreless first period, the RiverKings erupted for their six second-period goals.  Stoddard scored both of his goals in the period, along with single tallies from Tyler Doherty, Held, Ken Davis, and Louis Dumont.

Elias Godoy continued the onslaught in the third period with a goal six and a half minutes into the final frame for a 7-0 lead.  Ryan Campbell helped Wichita avoid the shutout with a power play goal at 11:40 of the third for the final score.

Mississippi was 0-for-5 on the power play, while Wichita was 1-for-4. 

Tim Boron was the winning goaltender with a 35 save effort, raising his overall season record to 5-6-2.  Ian Keserich took the loss for Wichita with 29 saves.  Scott Campbell came in after the fifth Mississippi goal and made four saves on six shots.

With the win, Mississippi remains in fourth place in the Central Hockey League Northern Conference standings with a 26-21-7 record for 59 points.  Wichita falls to 8-40-4 for 20 points and last place in the Northern Conference standings.

The RiverKings meet Allen in its next home game tomorrow night at the DeSoto Civic Center, starting at 7:05 PM.  The Dockery Foundation is the featured non-profit MVP of the night.  There will be a post-game skate for fans on the ice after the game.

March 13 is the date for the retirement of Don Parsons’ jersey number 13.  A pre-game ceremony will take place prior to the game between the RiverKings and Bossier-Shreveport that will include a video presentation and the unveiling of the jersey banner from the DeSoto Civic Center rafters.
